John Glenn

(July 18, 1921 – December 8, 2016)

Senator Glenn was a U.S. Marine Corps pilot, astronaut, and U.S. senator. He was selected by NASA to be one of the first seven astronauts in the U.S. space program later becoming the first American to orbit the Earth. Glenn was elected to represent Ohio, and served in the U.S. Senate from 1974 to 1999. At the age of 77 he flew on Discovery (STS-95), becoming the oldest person to fly in space, and the only one to fly in both the Mercury and Space Shuttle programs. Senator Glenn passed away on December 8, 2016.
