STEM at Home

STEM at Home is a collection of Challenger Center lessons and activities that can be modified and completed at home. Each STEM at Home category includes at least one at-home lesson. These activities require common household items or products that are readily available online. All STEM at Home lessons are marked with an asterisk * on the lesson page. Have questions? Grades 5-8*

Planetary science flipped classroom series with topics including Mars, the Sun, Near-Earth Objects, the Moon, and the Solar System. Each course includes an 8-10-minute animated video accompanied by lessons.

Grades 5-8*

Activities planned to be completed by Teacher in Space Christa McAuliffe. Topics include chromatography, effervescence, liquids in microgravity and Newton’s law. Each topic includes a video filmed aboard the International Space Station.

Grades 3-9 (can be adapted for all ages)*

Learn about what makes the Earth a unique and viable planet? Topics include: energy and temperature, maps and mountains, seeds, and atmosphere. Every topic includes 1-2 activities.

Grades 3-9 (can be adapted for all ages)*

The phases of the Mars settlement process: planning, launching, feeling the health effects of lower gravity, living on Mars, and working on Mars. Every topic includes 1-2 activities.

Grades 3-9 (can be adapted for all ages)*

The various phases of Lunar Exploration: preparing for launch, rocket launching, lunar landing, the Moon phases, lunar geology, lava tubes, and rovers. Every topic includes 1-2 activities.
