Remembering the Challenger Crew

Today marks 33 years since the loss of the Space Shuttle Challenger and its beloved crew. Immediately following the accident, the Challenger STS-51L families created Challenger Center to carry on the education mission of their loved ones. Now, over three decades later, more than 5 million students have been inspired by our STEM programs.

“On this 33rd anniversary of the Challenger accident, we remain dedicated to continuing the mission of the incredible STS 51-L crew,” said Lance Bush, President and CEO, Challenger Center. “As we fly students to space at Challenger Learning Centers and expand our programs into the classroom, we take great pride knowing this work carries on the legacy of the crew to inspire the next generation of leaders and innovators.”

Today and every day we remember Commander Francis R. “Dick” Scobee, Pilot Michael J. Smith, Mission Specialists Judith A. Resnik, Ellison S. Onizuka, and Ronald E. McNair, Payload Specialist Gregory B. Jarvis, and Teacher-in-Space, Payload Specialist Sharon Christa McAuliffe as their spirits live on in a new generation of explorers and scientists.

Thank YOU for helping us keep the Challenger crew’s legacy alive!
