Challenger Center's EdVenture Lab takes students beyond the traditional classroom and helps prepare them for living and working in the 21st century.
The EdVenture Lab is a national network of collaborative classrooms. Yet each EdVenture Lab is unique; they are designed to meet the specific needs of the local school district. EdVenture Labs present a powerful combination of curriculum, professional development, and technology.
Standards-Based Content
The backbone of the EdVenture Lab is a powerful lesson database. Educators have the ability to access an electronic library of standards-based activities that are interactive and inquiry-based. The activities are then taught right in the EdVenture Lab, taking full advantage of the technology-rich environment to maximize the learning experience.
The database provides a lesson builder capability for educators to create unique lessons based on their own needs and interests. Working with local schools, the EdVenture Lab tailors lessons that meet local standards and address the needs of their students.
Professional Development
The EdVenture Lab can serve as the local center for professional development for teachers. It facilitates continuing education in areas such as pedagogy, content specific topics, technology integration, and many other subjects desired by teachers.
Using the EdVenture Lab's teleconferencing system, professional development can be linked to institutions with programs that are not available locally, or to organizations with a particular content expertise.
Technology
The technology training that teachers and students receive as part of their EdVenture Lab experience can then be used back in the classroom with the technology that is already in place. Learning how technology can be seamlessly integrated into lessons can serve as a catalyst to increase the use of technology in the classrooms.
