Challenger
Center for Space Science Education
Challenger Center is the managing organization for PACCT and the
headquarters for the CLC network. Challenger Center was founded in 1986
by the family members of the ill-fated Challenger Shuttle 51-L crew. Its
mission is to use space exploration as a theme to create positive learning
experiences that raise students expectations of success; foster
in them a long-term interest in math, science and technology; and motivate
them to pursue careers in these fields.
Buehler Challenger &
Science Center
The Buehler Center was the host organization for the first year and a
half of the PACCT project. In the first year of the project (1998
- 1999), BCSC had the responsibility for the development of PACCT
curriculum, training materials for participants at all levels, outreach
plans and materials, assessment tools and the testing of all program elements
in its service area.
Challenger Learning Centers
Currently, 13 Challenger Learning Centers are actively offering PACCT
programs. Click here for locations
and contact information.
Girl Scouts of the USA
The national endorsement of PACCT by Girl Scouts of the USA
creates the opportunity for individual scouts or troops to complete patch
requirements and earn a PACCT patch while participating in PACCT
programming with their parents. Click here for the
full scoop.
Jet Propulsion Laboratory
Chosen as an educational partner by JPL, PACCT brings the excitement
of cutting edge space explorations to families across the country through
its STARDUSTª, Pathfinder and Lunar Prospector Discovery missions.
District Resource Teams
District Resource Teams (DRTs) are the critical link between CLCs and
participating families. They are comprised of at least one teacher, one
parent and one administrator from each participating community who act
as information resources for the teachers and families within their district..
Project Directors
For Lunar Challenges, CLCs are recruiting certified teachers with
strong science backgrounds to be trained and paid to lead four-session
programs in their communities that involve open-ended design problems.
This program, which includes the construction of a physical model by the
participating team of families, is the most ambitious and potentially
exciting of the four PACCT program categories.
Families Across the Country
Parents and children are our ultimate audience. This is an open invitation
for all parents and their 5th through 8th grade children to team up and
experience the fun and challenge of working together in one or all of
the PACCT learning programs.
Professional Scientists/Engineers
Visit the Future is a program category that focuses on career opportunities
and is led by a scientist or engineer. We are seeking volunteer professionals
to lead one or more programs at each of the participating CLCs.
Corporate Partners
There are numerous opportunities for corporations to participate in the
PACCT project, starting with employee families enrolling in three
of the four PACCT program categories. Corporations may have scientists
that would enjoy taking the lead in a Visit
the Future evening or becoming a mentor for a Lunar
Challenge group. Importantly, they may also be resources for materials,
expertise, or scholarship and project component funding. PACCT
represents a strong opportunity to combine employee welfare with community
relations in an educational setting.
