The Job Interview
The process of matching students to different mission work teams is very
similar to staffing an organization in the "real world." In this
parent/child career simulation, family teams will engage in a thought provoking
interview in which an adult "Career Counselor" will guide his/her
"Job Applicant" to discover unique things about him/herself and
to become familiar with important skills involved in landing a job.
The Annual Review
Having performed a critical role during the Challenger Center mission, it
is now time for the "Client" to return to the "Career Counselor"
for an essential debriefing of their on-the-job performance. This simulation
complements The Job Interview, enabling family teams to evaluate what has
taken place and to set new goals for the future.
Communications Challenge
One vital skill that astronauts-in-training must develop is an ability to
use clear, concise communications. In this hands-on simulation, family teams
will gain new insights into and appreciation for the challenge of mastering
this essential skill.
Houston, We Have a Problem!
An initial announcement by the Apollo 13 Duty Officer stated, "The
spacecraft is in real good shape as far as we're concerned. We're bored
to tears down here." This was soon to change as unexpected crises began
to occur. In this problem solving simulation, family teams will enact the
roles of Mission Control and Spacecraft crew in training as they target
key process skills depicted in Apollo 13 (the video). Will they have the
right stuff to bring 'em back alive?! (This activity requires that a family
have, borrow or rent the video.)
