Rendezvous with a Comet

Crew Training Activities

Traveling To A Comet

Hit a stationary target; hit a moving target; then try to hit a moving target while you're moving. Family teams will begin to get a feel for the complexity of figuring out how to launch a probe to rendezvous with a comet. Simple...

The Rainbow Machine

Student Astronomers submit research proposals to their American Astronomical Board member as they begin training to prepare for scientific investigations conducted during their space mission. Using a simple spectroscope (constructed in class), family teams will investigate unique patterns given off from different sources of light.

Silent Travelers

Parent/child teams preparing to deliver a Comet talk to a local club must work together to explain an unusual observation about the behavior of the comet along its orbital path. Using science process skills and good observations, this simulation will integrate hands-on exploration with image analysis to provide this team with valuable crew training for the mission.
