June Scobee Rodgers is the widow of Challenger Space Shuttle Commander Dick Scobee. After the Challenger explosion in 1986, June founded Challenger Center for Space Science Education as part of her life’s mission to foster a new generation of “star challengers.”. Holding a Ph.D. from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree from Chapman College, both in curriculum and instruction, she has taught in every grade-level classroom. June is married to retired Army Lieutenant General Don Rodgers. They live in Chattanooga, Tennessee and have three grown children. Read more about June.
Dr. Chuck Resnik is the brother of Mission Specialist Judith Resnik. Chuck serves as Vice Chairman of the Board and as a Founding Director for Challenger Center. Born and raised in Ohio, he resides in Baltimore, Maryland, where he is a Professor of Radiology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and the Director of the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Marcia Jarvis is the widow of Payload Specialist Gregory Jarvis, a Hughes Aircraft engineer. Marcia continues to serve as a Founding Director for Challenger Center. Originally from Long Island, New York, Marcia has lived in Pagosa Springs, Colorado since 2001. Marcia and her husband, Ron, have a small 40 acre ranch where they own and ride horses.
Originally from Massachusetts, Steven McAuliffe now lives in Concord, New Hampshire, where he serves as a federal judge. He is the widower of Christa McAuliffe, NASA’s Teacher in Space candidate. Steve continues to serve as a Founding Director for Challenger Center. He has two grown children, Scott and Caroline, and has remarried.
Cheryl McNair is the widow of veteran astronaut and Mission Specialist Ronald McNair. Cheryl continues to serve as a Founding Director for Challenger Center. Originally from South Carolina, she now makes her home in Houston, Texas, and has two grown children, Reginald and Joy.
Lorna Onizuka is originally from Hawaii, as was her husband, veteran astronaut and Mission Specialist Ellison Onizuka. Lorna continues to serve as a Founding Director for Challenger Center. She has two grown daughters, Janelle and Darien, and lives in Houston, Texas. She currently works for the National Space Development Agency of Japan.
Jane Smith Wolcott is the widow of Challenger Pilot Michael Smith. She continues to serve as a Founding Director for Challenger Center. Jane has three grown children, Scott, Allison and Erin. Now remarried, she makes her home in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
