The Evening Invocation

The Right Reverend Don A. Wimberly, D.D. offered the invocation at the Cosmic Rendezvous gala. Reverend Wimberly is the Bishop of Texas for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas.

Oh God, Creator of the Cosmos, God of all Majesty, Creator of all space and time; you call even the stars by name. Now in this small measure of time, tonight, unite us…call us, renew our faith by your presence.

Receive our thankgiving for raising our eyes heavenward that we might always find wonder in the ocean of light, stars, and galaxies that You have set before us to explore…Inspire our journey.

We especially give thanks for the lives of those astronauts who were drawn to explore and to seek You in the deeper recesses of the heavens, all the while looking back on this earthly garden gifted by Your grace. Through their adventurous eyes we have seen a humanity united beyond the boundaries of country and culture and time. Expand and strengthen our bonds of affection.

Now Lord beyond imagining, provide a vision of education and leadership for generations yet to come, encourage each and everyone, all made in your image, to reach for the heavens-and in so doing, to bring the light of peace and unity to one another as abundant as the numbers of stars glistening.

And this we offer in the constellation of Your mercies and to Your most generous glory; Now and always. Amen.
